When I heard about the dishwasher-safe decoupage medium from Mod Podge, I was like what!?!? Amazing!!This means you can customize a coffee mug on the cheap with printables. (Plus expand the kinds of designs you can get.)

Here is how you make a decal with your printer and apply it with the new dishwasher-safe Mod Podge formula!

What you will need:

Decal designs printed on heavy paper or cardstock.

Here is a printable with five silly coffee-inspired designs you can grab for free!

A foam brush

A coffee mug

Dishwasher-safe Mod Podge (it’s the middle one in the pretty blue container)

How to make custom coffee mug with Mod Podge:

1. Print the design you want to apply on white heavy paper or cardstock. Cut out your decal designs close to the edge of the graphic. Cut on the outside, not the inside for the best effect. Now prepare the mug by cleaning the outer surface of your mug with rubbing alcohol.

2.  Apply a thin coat of dishwasher-safe Mod Podge just a little bigger than the paper decal you will be applying. Keep in mind, DIY designs are not necessarily food safe, so just to be sure, I position all deals or glass decorations about one inch from the lip of the glass.

3. Stick the decal print to the glue. If it bubbles up, press the bubbles out with a finger (don’t rub or wipe, just downward pressure,) or use a brayer to smooth out the paper before the bottom layer of glue dries.

4. With a damp paper towel, wipe the excess glue off being careful to leave at least a 1/8 inch rim of glue around the outside of the paper decal. The decal has to be covered on all sides and edges to withstand normal wear. You will need to wipe off the excess glue like this after every coat of glue. Don’t wipe the paper decal, just around it.

5. Now you will apply two additional coats of dishwasher-safe Mod Podge on top of the decal to seal it. I have a trick for this that most people don’t know about. (It also works for stencils!) I like to use a credit card or gift card to do this. Just load it up as shown and gently glide it over the surface.

Leave 2 hours between coats per the instructions on the Mod Podge. And don’t forget to wipe off the excess glue   Around the decal with a damp paper towel each time you add a coat before it dries.

Don’t toss that used Michaels gift card. It makes a fabulous paint applicator!

Let this dry and cure for 28 days before you try to wash it. After that, it is dishwasher safe and should be washed on the top rack.

This crafty home decor idea is a really good one. You have seen painted signs, wire signs, and even printable wall art, but I bet you haven’t seen DIY word art signs made of rope! Tonya at For Love Of Family And Home used rustic-looking rope to make word art as a backdrop for a party table. How did she do it?

Hello, hot glue!

Polymer clay is easy to work with once you get used to how it works.

It is almost like unsticky taffy and until it is warmed and kneaded, it is hard as a rock. This can be daunting to some who have never worked with it before. But seriously…follow the directions and stick with it. Once you have the clay at the right consistency, it is easy peasy!

And the tools…there are lots of tools available for polymer clay. But don’t forget to check out the cake decorating aisle as well. The cut outs and shaping tools for gum paste work great for polymer clay too! In fact, one of these is actually a gum paste tutorial. The method works just as well for your polymer clay. The only difference is that you will need to follow baking directions for the clay on the back of the polymer clay package. :)

When making flowers with polymer clay, you basically cut out the shapes (with a cookie cutter or by hand,) use tools to create texture, wrap, shape, and bake. Really not so hard!

Get inspired by these easy-to-make polymer clay roses and other clay flowers with these video instructions. Have fun!
